Disc Read Problems

I purchased my Xbox about two or three years ago and am having problems with disc reading. I take great care of my Xbox and games and am very frustrated. I made the mistake of calling 18004MYXBOX and told them my problems with it. I don't want to spend $120 dollars to fix it. Any suggestions?

First off, Welcome to XBS!

Sorry about your Xbox problems. It's too bad you called tech support first. The only other low-cost solution that I can think of is, to shop around electronic repair shops in your area.

Do you think they would believe me if I said it was my brother and he was playing a trick on me or something like that? I just absolutely hate the fact that I payed $300 and now microsoft wants more?! Give me a break.

I doubt it seriously. They have your info and, if you ever registered your Xbox, your serial number is on file also. You said you've had your Xbox two or three years. Admitedly, you should be able to expect a longer time before your xbox craps out on you, that's not bad. Taking it to a electronics repair shop is your best bet. Keep in mind, if you bite the bullet & send it to M$ for repair, You would then be able to buy the extended warranty.

I just made the same mistake it seems. Mine is out of warranty by three months and it now has major issues with reading games or dvds. I rang XBOX support and was offered a AUD$150 repair charge.
After agreeing to it (didn't think I had any other option) I realised I probably should have tried fixing it myself (after all it was out of warranty anyway) and if I stuffed it, payed an extra AUD$150 for a new XBOX complete with another controller!
Bugger...

Welcome to XBS Batdude!

Sorry to hear about you making that call.Did they ask for your personal info? (Name, address, Xbox serial number) If, for some reason they didn't (it happens) you're in luck. You can stiill purchase the extended warranty.

You MAY have some other options. Check the Xbox.com forums http://forums.xbox.com/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=55 One of your fellow Countrymen may have a solution that works for you. Good Luck & again, Welcome to XboxSolution!
