Sounds like you are not using a router right now - if that's the case then no - wireless gaming adapters would still require the use of a router, which you should invest in anyhow to make your life easier, no more swapping cables when you're ready to play.

The connection not turning orange, depending on your modem, means you aren't getting a signal from your ISP - what cable are you fiddling with? The cable connection or the ethernet connection?

Playing with the C5 ethernet cable actually has nothing to do with the light on your modem turning orange (unless the orange light signifies a connection with a device such as a PC or an Xbox - but it usually means connectivity to the internet).

Re: Xbox Live Wireless

If you already have a normal internet connection, I wouldn't suggest getting wireless, in my expierience, it is much less reliable.

Re: Xbox Live Wireless

If you want to avoid the cable swapping then you'll just want to buy a regular router with some ports. Usualy 4-8 are included in most brands.

Really the only reason for buying the wireless adapter would be if you would like to re-locate your cable/dsl modem to another room and still have internet for the XBox. For this option you will need to buy a router with a Wireless Access Point and either the MS wireless adapter or a bridge for the XBox room.

The cost of going wireless is probably going to run you around $150. Just going with a regular router will probably cost you less than $50. Using either one of these options also gains you a lot better security for your home network.

As far as wireless performance is concerned, I've been using 802.11b since I started using Live and have not had any problems.
