Connection help.

I am trying to connect my 360 to the internet through Comcast Cable. I have a DLink 604 router set up. When I test the connection it always fails at the DNS server thing. I talked to Xbox support online and they are no help so I am hesitant to call tech support and waste more time. If anyone can help that would be great. The thing that realy annoys me is it was running fine on this set up just a little while ago, and now that I move it back it won't work.

Two questions.

1. Have you installed any routers or router software that block ports? The xbox live service can easily be blocked by your router or your ISP. Also check the compatibility list at
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/co.../equipment.htm

2. Did you try a new network cable? I had this cable that I've been using for over a year, unplugged it for a couple of months, recently tried it and found that it no longer works. It looks like someone must have tripped over it a while back or something as the connections inside do not look so great anymore - kinda pulled out more than they used to. Anyway, just because it used to work doesn't mean that it will always work. Try taking the networking cable from your PC (as long as you know that works for sure). Turn both PC and xbox off, take the cable from the back of your PC, plug it into the back of the xbox, turn on xbox. Try to connect on xbox live.

If you haven't changed anything then you need to give us more info about your setup. Is it like this:

D
L ------> PC
i
n -----------> xbox
K

or is it:

D-Link -----> PC ------> xbox

Re: Connection help.

Thanks for your help, sorry for the late reply.

1. I haven't installed any software recetly.

2. I tried switching the cables and still nothing.

The way it is hooked up is that the computer, modem, and 360 are all hooked into the router.

Re: Connection help.

I'd double check the network settings in your 360. If you don't know how your router is config'd then just try setting IP Address to automatic and DNS to automatic. Test your xbl connection and if that doesn't work then try Restore to Factory Defaults (still under network setup). Lastly, try to connect your 360 directly to the modem, turn it on and try to connect to XBL - to make sure it's not a bad router, firmware, port blocking, etc., on your end. Use the cable that currently connects to your router

If none of that works you ought to call your ISP for help with the connection.

ISPs sometimes try to tell you to call someone else (MS in this case) just to get you off their back. Tell them that you've already spoken to MS and everything is fine on their end. And they said its a problem with either the router or something else at the ISP. It may be bending the truth just a bit but --if the above steps don't fix it-- I'd bet a nickle it's either your router blocking XBL or your ISP either blocking or doing something.
