Two questions.
1. Have you installed any routers or router software that block ports? The xbox live service can easily be blocked by your router or your ISP. Also check the compatibility list at
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/co.../equipment.htm
2. Did you try a new network cable? I had this cable that I've been using for over a year, unplugged it for a couple of months, recently tried it and found that it no longer works. It looks like someone must have tripped over it a while back or something as the connections inside do not look so great anymore - kinda pulled out more than they used to. Anyway, just because it used to work doesn't mean that it will always work. Try taking the networking cable from your PC (as long as you know that works for sure). Turn both PC and xbox off, take the cable from the back of your PC, plug it into the back of the xbox, turn on xbox. Try to connect on xbox live.
If you haven't changed anything then you need to give us more info about your setup. Is it like this:
D
L ------> PC
i
n -----------> xbox
K
or is it:
D-Link -----> PC ------> xbox
