| Why are mods illegal? I was just wondering why it's so taboo to talk about or mod your xbox. I mean, you did pay for it, you own it, why can't you do what you want with it? I haven't modded mine, for fear of screwing something up, but I've watched a few friends do it. I just don't see what the big deal is, other than voiding the warranty. I mean, if you buy a PC, is it illegal to mod that by putting in a different drive or bigger hard drive? By opening it up, you also void the warranty on your PC. I'm just not seeing how these are not similar circumstances. Maybe I'm just dumb :P
I could see if you were modding to cheat on Live or something, but I heard Microsoft will just ban you, so I guess thats why I don't understand the big deal with mods. You're not hurting anyone..but yourself if you break something. hehe.
If someone could give me a legitimate reason other than "Microsoft says.." I'd be a little happier I guess.
My point was just that usually anything you buy...you have the right to do whatever you want to it. So it's illegal to mod your xbox, but legal to smash it with a hammer? or throw it down your stairs? See where I'm coming from?
I just posted this because I see some people mention mods and they get run off the board because I guess they think everyones gonna freak out on them.
Yes, I'm aware that somewhere on the Xbox it says not to mod it, but that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking why, if you pay for this product in full, Microsoft still has a say in what you do with it, even if it harms no one. |
