Unhappy Darn Xbox..

Well, I am of course, using the ol' regular Xbox. I cannot afford a 360, so I'm stuck with this.

To start off, it's one of the original Xbox releases, I got it like the 1st day they came out. It has been in it's box ever since I stopped playing it, still in mint condition. I pull it out because my friend signed me up for Xbox Live, and I put in Halo 2, only to come upon a, "Disc cannot be read" error. So I look at my disc, and it had a chip in it, so I went up to Gamers to buy a new one, I get home, try it, and it says it cannot be read. I checked out this one, and there were no scratches on it, and it worked at Gamers when they tested it.

Anyone have any tips? I have searched and saw that I could open up my Xbox, and clean it out because there might be dust/hair/other particles in it.

I have tried taking it apart, but all the screws look like they have been stripped, and none of my screwdrivers will work.

Any help at all, will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
~MyThIx~

Re: Darn Xbox..

well since you already tried to open it you know it uses a special size. I don't suggest trying to open the unit. Instead you said it sat for a while chances are dust and gunk built up on the lens. Try the things below first and if they fail you will have to take it somewhere to get fixed. Most small electronic store will fix the old Xbox for you for a fee of course.

Get 2 large cans of compressed air open the disc tray and spray into the unit keep the nozzle from spraying drops of liquid though.

The close the lid shut off the sytem and unplug it. Spray into the air vents and try and get as much air into the system. Let it sit for about 20-30 minutes. Try the Halo disc I also suggest trying another disc. If you get the same message on every game disc. Get a DVD lens cleaner they run about 14.99 and run that maxell makes a good one if this still won't get the disc's to read the lens could have shifted or it may be the laser voltage etc. All of which you need to becareful trying to fix yourself.

Re: Darn Xbox..

Thanks for the help, but I found out my Xbox's motor was burned out. Turns out I needed a T15 Torx bit, and it worked swell. I just got me a brand new Xbox for $50, but thanks for the reply!
