A "better system?" As he would soon explain, Nintendo will be "relaunching" the Wii console sometime before or at the beginning of Spring 2007. The launch, which is said to see many different colors for the Wii system (as seen at E3), will also be accompanied by a hefty price drop from $250 to $200. For those that believe such a drop would be too radical, keep in mind Miyamoto's own statements that the original plan was to develop a system under $100. Also note that it is undetermined if the "better system" statement includes technical upgrades to the Wii, as recent rumors have suggested.

sounds sick. It wouldn't make me feel so stupid about sleeping outside of Best Buy and selling my spot for a Wii to a friend for 30 bucks.

MAN THAT PISSES ME OFF LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The white console is the best looking one anyway. The DVD playback is only for Japan right now anyway, and that system is going to cost more, not less.

I admit I was pretty intrigued pre-Wii launch and a little after, but as more and more time goes by I have to say I'm not feeling it so much anymore. The system has just one great game that being Zelda, everything else is sub-par or just doesn't interest me one iota. I could care less about the Virtual Console premise since I have my original Xbox modded and I swear to God I have every game made on Earth on that thing. OK, maybe not that many, but there are a TON of them. I'm talking console games AND arcade games from back in the day. And the idea of paying $5 for a 20+ year old game doesn't exactly get me feeling all giddy inside. More like I was just ripped off. This system either needs to lower the price even more or get some VERY kick *** games that are worth buying it for. As of right now I'm still under the impression the whole Wii-mote is just a fancy gimmick and a novelty attention getter for the system. I don't believe that's where the future of gaming is going...at least not for a while until participation becomes more complicated and invested (i.e. virtual reality and not just those goggles either). It holds no appeal to me whatsoever. I'm perfectly content to sit on my *** and exercise my fingers just like we all have for the past twenty-five years games have existed. Not to mention the graphics are incrementally superior to a GC. I'm not a graphics whore by any means, but dammit, technology is not that constrained anymore. We HAVE the technology to make beautiful looking games so I think we should use it. This isn't the 8-bit era where we should settle for anything less than what current technology is capable of. Thoughts? -K

Posts: 2,585 | Re: Colored Wiis for 200 After using the wii mote on Zelda to point and aim swing as a sword, I can definitely see that concept taking over, You are way more precise aiming wise using point and fire versus analog. There is a clear advantage using the wiimote in a first person shooter. It is so sensitive that you can just barely flick your wrist and it responds.

For as along as I've played videogames, no console has. They've all had either one or two great games, with the rest just there to waste your time. In the same likeness the videogames that come out with the system aren't going to initially be the best looking ones. Zelda is one of the best looking ones so far, as well as Excite Truck; but at the same time...both of those games were planned for the GCN. If you look at SSX Blur and Sonic and the Secret Rings, coming out real soon, those games are far more than incrimently better than the GCN. It's apparent we do have the technology for better visuals, by looking at both the 360 and the PS3, but Nintendo's initial idea was to make a console that was accessible to a wider audience. If they want to reach a wider audience they had to make it more appealing, and in America if you want to appeal to the average family when it comes to new gaming consoles you want a cheaper price point than your competitors. It obviously worked since the Wii has been doing far better in terms of consumer interest than the PS3. Which also has something to do with it's attractive controller. Whether it's all a gimmick or not has still yet to have been proven, there's no doubt that it's fun to play with. I caught my grandmother playing Wii Sports Bowling. But since Nintendo was making a new console, they realized that it's visuals had to be better than it's predecessors, and they are.

What I am saying is even what they have lined up down the road isn't that appealing to me. They have what? Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3...beyond that nothing grabs my interest, and even those paltry two titles are insufficient to buy a whole system for.
And Nintendo has been doing much better than PS3, no doubt. But how long will that streak last? I'm not sure going after a market that wasn't interested before in video games will all of sudden be converted. I'm sure it is a fun system to play. I just don't see how a non-gaming demographic will be able to support a new control scheme. It might have its uses for FPS games, but how many grandmas of the world will really become serious gamers? How long before the novelty of the control scheme wears off on people?
