What happens if Blu-ray fails as a movie format? Then you just spent $600 for an obsolete format (as far as movie watching is concerned). Hardly a "deal breaker" in my book. At least with the HD-DVD peripheral you're not forced into buying it, and you can wait it out to see which format will win. Personally I believe HD will win but it's still up in the air currently. I just don't foresee Blu-ray taking off. And if that's the case a lot of people just got duped. -K

Posts: 2,585 | Re: ps3 price slipped Well the Format war is a bit scary for me right now because I read its HD winning, then its Blu Ray winning, and I start to think, did I just waste $200 on a HDDVD player? Most of the studio;s are backing Blue ray and that means most of the good movies will be on blu ray, the fact that the PS3 comes packaged with blu ray means it will get in more houses quicker then the currently $1000 bluray players on the market, most those gamers will gravitate to buying bluray movies thus giving them support. One key factor no one looks at is the porn industry...yes Porn makes more money a year then even the game biz and if The PORN industry decides to support HDDVD like it did VHS over BETA MAX, then its all but over for Blu ray.

I can find a link if you want,,I decided not to post it in the forum as I wasn't really sure if we needed something like that hehe.
I'm thinking about getting a HD DVD player,,but my biggest problem is that it doesn't appear that any stores in my area are selling the HD DVD's yet, even though they do the players for sale -sigh-.
And I almost wish I had a Blu Ray player too, because Sony Entertainment is the company behind the Spiderman movies,,which means there isn't a snow flakes chance in hell of those coming to HD. I have to admit, Sony has made a clever play with the PS3, they already have a pre-installed user base with all of the Sony fans who were gonna buy the PS3 no matter what. Which means they've already got around a million units sold to people, who even though they couldn't have cared less about Blu Ray before, since they've got it they are gonna use it right?

Posts: 2,585 | Re: ps3 price slipped walmart carries Hd and blu ray movies as well as best buy, but walmart has better prices, just not as large of a selection. I've been hitting Fry's electronics for most my HD DVD's. If blu ray loses out, Sony will cave and make HDDVD movies, they won't have a choice. But right now Fox and Disney are backing Blu ray so is Paramount to an extent and that means that the movies that matter the most to me aren't coming to HDDVD anytime soon. ( star wars, star trek, and some good Disney classics. ) The matrix trilogy is coming to HDDVD and so is the LOTRs movies and I can not wait.

I hope that both formats will be accepted but as we all know this will not be the case. I think HD format will win in the long run. I had my hands on a grillstation the other day 60 gig and I just handed it back the first console I won't be buying or have any disire to play. I just can't get interested and still feeling sore about the way Sony handled and marketed this monster.

Posts: 2,228 | Re: ps3 price slipped Yeah, last I heard the porn industry was backing HD Sony really fumbled with the PS3 in handling the PR and marketing. Maybe if they didn't act like a bunch of **** heads with a chip on their shoulder I could like them better and the PS3. Even post PS3 launch they're finding ways to screw up. First with that fake site they put up to push the PSP and they got called on it because it was so hideously fake. Second, they announced that porn will not be appearing on BR discs. And the latest was where they had an ad for Gran Turismo posted on their site but the picture they used was from PGR3!! -K

However I don't think you'll see a mass switch until the whole HDTV requirements kick in, people aren't going to shell out the cash to replace entire DVD collections when they don't have a TV they can see the difference on.
