But I thought it was the developers that decided to drop the production. | No, M$ wanted to drop the title because it was taking too long to make and with the impending release of the next gen Xbox TFLO wouldn't make much money before everyone starts playing the next Xbox.

Good thing WoW isn't any good or your statement would be true. The only PC RPG that might overshadow TFLO is CoH because of it's unique setting. Anyway, I really hope this game is gonna release soon. Since it might be announced soon, maybe we'll get it before Fall.

Argue all you want about whether City of Heroes is a better game than World of Warcraft (it's debatable, CoH does have that "champions" flair but WoW has a much larger installed player base and new content added every 4-8 weeks) the point is that there is a glut of very good MMOs on the market, leaving the success of a console based one to be a high risk product, at the very least (since from at least a technical standpoint consoles are inferior to PCs for the type of involved gaming associated with MMOs, the only real benefit is that you can while away your hours from the comfort of a couch, as opposed to sitting in a chair).
Penguin prognosis: a flop if it gets released on current generation hardware. The next generation of consoles really does seem poised to shake up the defined gaming niches. | |
