Does anyone by chance know how to play multyplayer on gladius. It says to push start or something like that during game play so i would have the second player press start but nothing would happen.

When you go into the screen that allows you to choose gladiators for a given battle, if the 2nd player presses start you will each get a turn (it alternates one-at-a-time) to choose a gladiator. Of course this only works if you are allowed more than gladiator in a battle.
