I haven't really researched any other BluRay players, so I don't know how the PS3 compares to them. However, I am very happy with the PS3 as BluRay player with both the quality and upgrade capabilities the hard drive provides. A little off topic, but I got season 1 of Chuck on BluRay for the same price of the regular DVD, and I have to tell you, watching Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) in 1080p makes it worthy, hahahaha!
I see everyone's points... even though Sony pushed it as a public beta because of pressure from users and NXE, it
is a beta, so kinks are expected. Every major rollout of a new feature has seen connectivity issues: NXE, BluRay Live on Iron Man, etc.
Yes, the PS3 definately needs more games. I have Resistance, Drake's Fortune, and MGS4... besides these, nothing else worth playing to me. LBP may have nice graphics, but it is not for everyone... I tried it, and definately not for me.
I don't think Home is going to sell units, even less during the beta stages... and if Sony tries to market the PS3 because Home beta is now available, it would be really low from their end. They would be trying to use an unfinished product to move consoles.
Is Home well done? In many ways it is... loading times were not too bad after I was in, graphics were not bad either (let's be honest, we've seen games with worse quality). They just need to keep working on it, we'll have to wait and see what they do with it at the end, but they do need to start putting it into gear.
They Wii is kicking everyone's butts, and the 360 seems to be growing very strong with the NXE, price cuts, games, etc. Did you all read Major Nelson's blog on how the release of the NXE boosted LIVE activity altogether?

The equivalent of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago combined.
- Since the New Xbox Experience launched on Nov. 19 the number of new friends added per Xbox LIVE member has risen by 33%.
- Xbox LIVE is not just games: With more than 45 global network and studio partners, and Netflix in the U.S., we offer more than 30,000 movies, TV episodes and music videos in both high and standard definition.
- In the past year the average number of unique visitors to Xbox LIVE each day has risen 66%
- Movie downloads increased 49% and TV episode downloads were up 30% the week after launch
- Xbox LIVE Arcade sales almost tripled in the first week after the New Xbox Experience launched
- Avatar-specific titles like A Kingdom for Keflings registered the second-best first week of performance ever
- UNO which was updated to include in-game Avatars, saw a 650% increase in sales in just one day
So all in all….pretty good numbers. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks. |
BTW, did you guys check the snow globe? It's kinda dumb, but a funny thing to add that's good for a laugh or two.
Anyway... Home had a rocky beta release, the only place to go from here is up, let's just hope Sony realizes that and does something about it.
