Okay, so I know we've kinda been having this in the "Kojima disappointed with PS3 " thread, but thought I might kick it off anew here, especially since I'll be mentioning more than just MSG 4.
So I've spent about a month of my life playing the MGS series. I skipped playing part one as I played that years ago, and instead picked up the new novel about that game to give myself a refresher while I worked through part 2. Took me about a week and a half, two weeks to go through the second one. Mainly because I was having to force myself to be intersted in playing it and finishing it. Took me about a week to finish part three, and I seroulsy busted my *** to get through it that quickly. I have to admit it, when these games first came out I have no doubt as of to how damned impressive they must have been. There were still pretty enjoyable anyway, it was just hard to get used to the look of them after spending three years on a Next Gen console. I have to admit, to really appreciate these games you really need to get into the story of them, which has been partially spoiled for me with all of the research I did in prepartion of getting MGS 4.
So, I started MGS 4 last night, and I gotta admit, I'm impressed with it. I'll even admit that playing the other two games was definatly worth it. Gives me the right mindset for how to approach this game and what to expect. The only hitch I've really had in the transition was the controls..compared to the controls of the last three games, which were almost identical (and god awful in my opinion), the new controls are an absolute god send, and feel so natural. But I'm used to the old ones, so I keep hitting the wrong buttons at the wrong time by reflex.
I finsihed out the first chapter of the game last night, and I am impressed. I haven't been blown away, but I am impressed, and I have a whole new perspective on what makes Kojima such a talented game developer, and why this series is as popular as it is. Also, I'm really getting into the story now, and finding out answers to questions that were raised in MGS 2. Thats something that my mind has been gnawing on for a while now.
Don't know how many of you that have a PS3 have MGS 4, but I would highly recommend it. I really don't think I'd recommend the PS3 to anyone based on this game alone, unless you really are a graphix whore at heart. Its a good game, but its not going to appeal to everyone who plays it. Don't know if I'd push off the first three games on anyone either, unless you enjoy an intersting story like I do.. thats your choice/ preference but I recommend you get MGS 4 if you have a ps3. If you're like me and have spent months looking at it and thinking "game console??", this will give ya something to enjoy with it
