Soul Calibur and PoP film rights acquired

In genuinely surprising and pleasing news today, a couple of the hottest videogame movie licences around have failed to fall into the hands of Uwe Boll, which makes a change. Instead, the film rights to Namco's Soul Calibur were acquired by American Pie producer Warren Zide, whilst Jerry Bruckheimer Films secure Prince of Persia.

Zide will produce the cinematic rendition of Soul Calibur the popular beat 'em up at his Sony-based studio, Anthem.

Meanwhile, Bruckheimer's acquisition of Prince of Persia (now there's a game aching to be turned into an action flick) was reported by Variety.com, who also inform us that game script writer Jordan Mechner will be responsible for the film's plot. "Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we're taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story - much as 'Pirates' did with the theme park ride," Mechner commented. All of which sounds actually rather promising.

Here's hoping Jerry Bruckheimer devotes the time and effort that this licence deserves. Certainly Pirates of the Caribbean is an impressive point of comparison at this early stage. More as we get it.

Hopefully they'll even make the movie...too many licenses get bought, then they just sit and rot...

Here's looking forward to some good flicks. o.o

Well I hated the American Pie movies....I don't know what people found so funny about them. I just hope Soul Calibur doesn't turn out as lame. But on the other and Jerry Bruckheimer movies are always good. I will definatly go see PoP.

No no, I as well was sitting in the movies with a blank look on my face wondering why I spent money on this. There wasn't ONE moment where I even craked a chuckle at anything they said or did, but yet still people found it to be one of the most funniest series of movies.

Sorry, but I loved the band-camp chick. She kicked ***. o.o' And Stifler was hilarious in my opinion...don't know why, I'm just a fan of Sean William Scott. And Nadia was hot in the webcam scene. *drools*

So good were they in my opinion I have the unrated versions of the first two on DVD. ^_^"

Re: Soul Calibur and PoP film rights acquired

Stifler was the one that made the movie so bad for me. I swear if I went to High School with him, I would like make plans to injure him just cause I just can't stand people like that.

Thankfully, I chose *not* to watch those movies :-)

I hate making games into movies.... it just ruins it for me.
