The jokes just aren't out there anymore. Three years or more ago hardly a day would go by without someone somewhere sending me a joke email or something. Now I get hardly any. I think I must have had two, possibly three, in an entire year. I think most employers, large one mainly, I would imagine are using high tech software to filter them all out with spam.
On the other hand, I was not aware that this site had such a reduced volume of traffic as PureEgo and Rough point out. It's not just this site that's gone quiet though. Another site I visit, SciFi247 seems to be a lot more quiet than here. Even their late breaking news is circa March 2006!!
So it looks like the SciFi247 maintainers have gone AWOL also.
I note that even Christina hasn't posted here for almost a year.
BTW, when I said there's sod all going on here I hope you didn't take it the wrong way. It was merely an observation.

I know Col does his best for this site and I applaud him for his hard work. I am also glad that we have close to 1 hundred lurkers a day. I think a lot of the old peeps on this site have moved on to college and just don't have time any more. Oh well..we can keep it alive and it will bounce back.

Never really understood lurker mentallity though, other than that I guess some people just prefer to read and learn rather than participate and argue.
Maybe thats what we need around here, more insults and arguements going back and forth each day. It seems that the forums that I visit daily that are the most active had a raito of 9 arguement threads per one informative thread where everyone just gets along.
Seriously though, Jimbo, Rough, between the three of us we should equal out to one relativly smart person,,what could be done to help get the forums buzzing again? The whole "if we keep it open, they will come" thing kinda worries me. To be honest, it brings to mind Raidator Springs from from that Disney movie, where all the occupants of that old town sat around hoping for the day that someone new would come into their humble town lol.

We are going to keep the forums open and even though Pure Ego does not know it he sort of nailed something. If we keep it open they do come I have the traffic stats I know we have traffic and late at night higher than the day. Lurkers or not they come , read and follow.
I would love an active forum and I do what I can to get things going in way of contests and other things. I don't want a forum were people are at each others throats bashing and insulting you want that go to Xbox.com or other places and there are plenty including closed threads daily. My point is simple we need active members Jason, Gronar, Alpha myself or the few members that post is great but we need others to post and more often.
It's easy to say this or that what could or should be done but plain and simple the forums are only as active as the members. We plan on still having things to increase meber numbers but contests should be rewards not ways to draw in members we are not PBS I feel at times I am trying to have a member drive. If there is ten or 20 or 20 thousand members the forums will stay open. It would be great to see more activity but I am tired of asking or suggestesting things maybe with summer and what not people like to know its here when they want it.

The other site I mentioned hasn't had its news page updated by its Admin in over two years as you know. At least you make the effort (and the difference I hasten to add). I sure the others will agree with me.
As far as the Jokes threads are concerned I have noticed over time that they started becoming more visual, that it lots of video clips or links to them, were being posted. So I wonder if everyone is now 'hooked' on 'YouTube' or website of that ilk. I know my wife is. Websites where one doesn't necessarily need to exercise one's written skill too much, if you get my gist.

I get enough of that browsing the gametrailers forums every day. Things are so bad there that even your respective fans of each game or console can't get along with each other.
I just remember the good 'ol days when we had a pretty active forum going, new threads and discussions each day. And I would like to see that return, hence my continued interest in this thread, since it was brought up here.

I know you didn't mean to suggest that we allow anything goes. I was just stating that no matter what we try to bring people here and have them post it needs to be the members that are here to become active before we can expect others to be active. I am glad to see that you have returned and I have seen others back stick around this time
