Question Critical On Halo 2 / Halo 3 Preview

I don't think I've posted here before
But on my regular forums everyone will tell you
That I'm xtremely critical when it comes reviews

I am the ultimate halo fan... I have every piece
Of licensed halo-related merchandise
(Excluding the nightmare armor)
So as you may have guessed that I
Am even more critical in my thoughs on halo 2.

I would like to hear your feedback as to whether you agree or disagree with what I have to say.

1. First change you'll probably notice is the
Health gauge... Where is it?
This was a HORRIBLE mistake. As a seasoned FPS/Shootemup/MilSim player, I can say that tactically, this was just wrong. Because now, instead of engaging 5-7 elites face to face in gory glory as my MA5B rips through flesh and bone alike (like in halo 1), I have to play hide and seek with them while my shields recharge.
The health should've stayed.
Instead, since its gone, not only do I have to duck and cover more than I'd like, but the enemies seem harder than they actually are.

2. "If it aint broke, don't fix it"
Halo 1, while not THE BEST fps app I've
Played, it is certainly among the top. (And had the best storyline I might add)
Even though halo 1's gameplay wasn't THE BEST, there was nothing wrong with it.
Now, bungie has taken many great things and made them worse.
For instance:
- shotgun: looks worse, slower reload
- scorpion tank: and I thought it was slow in part 1... Sheesh
- MJOLNIR: if mark 6 is an upgrade of mark 5... Then who the hell stole my health... Was it you?
I am the best the human race has to offer, and yet an elite can kill me with a single volley from his plasma rifle.... Youre right, we really are f$%@ed
- Ghost: can only reach "halo 1" speeds with a boost
- Bansee: ditto
- M6D Pistol: I barely knew ye
- MA5B: would've been nice to dual weild
- Plasma Pistol: no more uber-energy visuals
- Hunter: simply put.. A travesty, we really bonded before... Now I barely recognize you
- Jackal: Enter John Hammond, "Welcome, to Jurassic Park"
- Grunt: youre still my soft, plush teddybear-like, bullet pillow... I love you guys.

As a ridiculously avid fan of halo 1 and the books of halo, I was very disappointed to see all of the changes that were made to the things that I have grown to love. TIP TO BUNGIE: in order to keep the story linear and familiar to those fans who have followed since the beginning.. Do us a favor and give us something we recognize. It acutally seems almost like a completely different game.

3. The three stooges would be insulted.
Tell me this... Who wasn't looking forward to laying someone out with a nice one-two combo? I was hurt we I found that you can't double melee while dual weilding.

4. Not so elite anymore!
I FRIGGIN HATE! When characters who are built up to be hardcore killer types, and a series reveals them to be girly or tries to
Personify them, (ala predator in Alien vs Pred)
Lets track the Elite's progress:

After halo 1 and Halo: First Strike
Elite "Badass" Rating: 2000 (run to your mommy children)
After building sentiment by telling elite's story
Elite "Badass" Rating: 1300 (I will freaking hurt you buddy)
After connecting with the audience and becoming friendly with the player via playable characters ...
Elite "Badass" Rating: 700 (can't we talk about this)
After losing the AWESOME "elite-speak" and communicating in english, making them more "humane"
Elite "Badass" Rating: 300 (would you care for a spot of tea?)
After getting ordered by a cripple with an english accent
Elite "Badass" Rating: 0 (total flippin pansy)
After teaming up with humans
Elite is no longer a badass... He's in the same club as the Predator... He went from Human Hurter to Human Hugger
Maybe I'm confused... I thought we wanted to strictly wipe elite brains off of our boots... Not get cozy with them and understand their struggle.
...*I'm so glad that I didn't get that Elite tatoo after all*

*SPOILER*
5. Oh... Was that it?
After already being left on a cliffhanger twice (halo 1 and first strike), I must say.. That ending really sucks.. I didn't even know that was the end till it was over.
Halo 1 had a fantastic ending in the form of The Maw.. It made YOU want to get up and run out of the door.
Halo: First Strike had a fantastic ending
Halo 2's ending should've been spiced up with an OFF THE CHAIN animated battle sequence.

Bottom Line:
Things had to be changed to make room for the improved graphics and AI, but there is no excuse for some of the things that happened with this game.
I am a HARDCORE halo fan, and ill love halo to the end, halo 1 is STILL my favorite game... And I don't think halo 2 is much better than 1. Yes, it is good in its own ways, but had it been built on the foundation of halo 1, then it would've been so much more awesome than the awesome it is now.
Halo 2 was made in the developer's mindset of, "Oh, that would be interesting to see." And not purely in the fan's taste.

ABOUT HALO 3
I'm sure quite a few of you know it as well.

I don't wish to spoil it for those who don't know
So if you'd like to know the major events and
partial storyline of Halo 3, hit me up on my AIM

Re: Critical On Halo 2 / Halo 3 Preview

I agree, except for the part that you said halo was as good as halo 2. I think halo was much better because it wasn't so confusing, it was so simple on the first one and so much fun, now they make it all confusing for all the aspects of the game they made it so bad that driving a vehicle is not even fun anymore because they can blow up and they're slow damn slow.
Halo's weapons were better too i wish they would have left in the pistol instead of that gay magnum piece of **** toy. If you play halo on system link with about 8-16 people then play halo 2 on system link with 8-16 people you will find that halo is soo much more fun and more exciting. All i have to say is halo 2 sucks compared to the first one.

You're entitled to your opinions, and some of what you said I agree with, but it just seemed like you tried to tear apart everything you could that would help to make the game seem worse than what it really is.

You know.. I'd say halo 1 is proly better
And also, halo 2 gets a tad bit repetitive and tedious towards the end...

Captain keyes would be ashamed of his daughter's performance

That statement is for naught unless you have the Nightmare armor.

Otherwise very, uh, astute observations. Like Rockk, I agree with some of what you said, and even thought it was pretty clever (the whole downfall of the Elite part), but again, I think part of your disappointment is due in fact to all the coverage you no doubt followed. I mean, if you're the ultimate Halo fan I'm sure there's scarcely an article or picture that you haven't read before the game released. So naturally you read all this, time goes on (2+ years) and all that info gets accumulated into the hype portion of your brain. Whether you realize it consciously or not you were probably hyped about it and all that hype ended up being a detriment because now that you finally have what you've been waiting for for so long it's unable to please you. To prove my point, it's so unlike what you anticipated that you're able to clarify and pick out every little detail that you don't like meaning psychologically that your aspirations for the game were higher than what the game has to offer practically.

Re: Critical On Halo 2 / Halo 3 Preview

I will agree to that to an extent... But my
Case isn't similar to most....

Unlike most of the people who followed
The development of halo 2, I wasn't really
Awe-struck by each new feature they
Made public, (dual weilding, destruct. Vehicles, etc.)

I was actually more concerned with the storyline
So there wasn't any one feature of the
Game that I was looking forward to,
It could've had single weilding for all I
Care...

The only thing I was worried about was
The ability of the game to properly
Portray the story in an easy manner
and for the story to remain linear and
Consistent.

The minor (and not so minor) flaws that
I mentioned earlier are actually taking away
From one's ability to understand the story,
And it also changes the story in a certain
Aspect.

(Small changes to static characters/elements in a story are usually picked up by those who already know the story by heart.)

Basically I just wanted the game to be
An improved in everyway on its "Game of the year", "piss in your pants", "jump out of your chair" prequel.

And directly before the game, the stage was set thanks to Halo: first Strike.. And I keep mentioning this book because it was the first book I read of the 3, and after the first chapter... I couldn't put it down. It was an amazing experience for someone such as myself who loves halo as much as I do.

So I really wasn't looking for anything in halo 2 other than it being an improvement.

Angry Re: Critical On Halo 2 / Halo 3 Preview

Well i must say that this post was rather uhh intresting like the health bar being removed was actually a good thing. Just hear me out in halo 1 even in legendary there was no challenge AT ALL. In my eyes there was some truth about what you said about halo 2 but all in all i dont think halo 2 is as bad as you degrade it. Quit looking at the negative things about it. For those who says its to complex.. so what it makes you think big deal well i got to go peace

Re: Critical On Halo 2 / Halo 3 Preview

As for the no health bar. I remember in the books, everytime the MC's shields went down, he was scared ****less about taking another hit, aka getting killed. It's much better without the health bar. I remember distinctly how the Covenant plasma weapons were far superior to the UNSC's projectile weapons. They melted rocks and armor with one hit from an overcharge plasma pistol. Shields down, one plasma hit, MC=roasted marshmallow.
