After watching Richard and Judy the other week some MP (cant remember what his name is Tony something) has put forward a motion in parliament to get all VIOLENT game ban. The games that they use to publicise to parents were MANHUNT and basically all ROCKSTAR games. The parents after watching what content that these games have in them, one of these parents who have already brought GTA SA for her son said, AFTER seeing what was in the game he will not be playing it again.
On working in my shop the day GTA SA got released, I had all these parents in clearly buying the game for their 8 – 14 kids and not even asking what was in the game, and no I didn’t tell them it was a 18+ game.
This really pisses me off. Cant these parents do SOME research be4 buying game for their kids? And this MP sure do some research be4 going on TV and making a tosser of him self, because in the UK the age of the Avg. gamer is 24, is he really telling me that I CANT go out and buy violent games? ….. what? ….. go out and kill this MP by drive-by? Christ, see these games, make you go mad after all.
We’re getting more like the US every day, reading teletext, I see parents of a 13 year old girl are suing WAL-MART because they sold a CD to the girl which had a swear word in it.
CANT PARENT DO RESEACH B4 THEY BUY GAMES FOR THE 8 YEAR OLDS?

I think that you, as a retailer should be asking for ID, and reminding the parents, most places, like wallmart actully have to, it comes up on there screen, just some of the clerks skip it

They have no idea what their kids are up to, and when they go bad, they look for anything to blame but themselves.

I do ask for ID if I think there not old enough, but you cant really do anything if their parents are buying it for them, if they don’t ask what content is in a game, I don’t tell, if they do ask (which doesn’t happen much) I would tell them.
Here in the UK well have two-age rating on games; one is the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification), which is compulsory, and PEGI (Pan European Game Information system) which is only a guideline. If I was to sell a BBFC rated game to a under-ager, I could get fined up to £2000, and put in jail for 6 months and loss my job, so I make sure if they look under age I ask for ID.
With the PEGI rating because its only a guideline I could sell a game 16+ to a 10 year old and theirs nothing in the law which says in cant, but with the company which I work for treats them both the rates the same, i could lose my job, but not get fined.
"I think that you, as a retailer should be asking for ID, and reminding the parents, most places, like Wal-Mart actually have to, it comes up on there screen, just some of the clerks skip it"
Well, theirs not allot you can do if the parent buying it for them, and if they dont ask, is their?
No one is going to make me change my mind about this subject, most parents either cant be bother to research what their buying their kids and what their kids are playing, or care, well I think that’s says it all, don’t you?
The MP name is TONY BANKS (i remember now)
Do YOU think some one has the right to tell you what you can play or not, or what you can buy and not to buy?

Personally i think if the parents are stupid enough to buy the games for their kids without looking at the content or at least reading the back of the box, then its their fault, not the stores, not the programmers. they are doing their job, making games, and selling them, if parents arent doing their job and make sure they look at what their kids are buying, why the hell are the gaming retailers punished?
It doesnt make sense, and it wont ever make sense, because its all political b*******. I wish politicians would keep their noses out of it, because all they ever do is screw things up.
Cheers,

I once stood in amazment listening to a parent (a mom) yell at the counter person for Coconuts, due to a Kid Rock cd she got for her son, having a pic of Kid Rock inside flipping the bird. She wanted a full refund andhe would only give her what they would give for a used cd. LOL
I'm 34 years olds, I've listened to the heaviest metal, watched the sickest horror movies and played the sickest games my entire life and I turned out halfway normal.
Humanity is doomed.

Most of the games covers will give you an idea of what it's like. Look at the GTA:SA cover. Or any GTA cover for that matter. And also read the back of the case and you'll get an idea of what the game is like. I mean my mom is smart enough to know what the games have in them just by the cover. Fable is ok because she checked the covered and it didn't have anything bad in it. The worst they say is like **** or bastard or something. But sometimes it is the cashiers fault too. They should at least have the decency to say "you know what's in this game right?" or something. Rather than just being concerned with the next 4 hours of their boring job at a video or game store.

I mean, it's one thing to get mad at the ignorance of parents, but it's another to witness that ignorance willingly and go along with it by not saying anything to educate them about what they're buying. Maybe if you had said something they wouldn't have bought the game and thus, you wouldn't see all these parents up in arms about violent games.
Sometimes you have to volunteer information because these parents are too dim witted to ask for themselves, or maybe they don't know enough to ask. Whatever the reason as a retailer YOU are responsible for making the public aware of what they're buying if they can't think to ask on their own. And if you think you're NOT responsible, you have only to look at your own story to see WHY you are partly responsible.
So don't complain about ignorant parents when you had a perfect opportunity to make them AWARE.

One more thing as well, when i use to do it, the mum (90% of them buy their kids games for them) goes "Well, thats what he wants" and buys it anyways, so i dont waste my time any more. But, after all that, i can see your point of view, but you wont make me change my mind, sorry.
