Posts: 4,929 | GOTY (Game Of The Year) 2004 2004 is almost at a close, and now seems to be a good time for a 'game of the year' thread. So post your nominations. Rallisport Challenge 2: It felt like a long time waiting for this game, but boy it was worth it. GReat graphics, great crashes and extremely entertaining comeption courtesy of XSNsports. Full Spectrum Warrior: Certainly a different game when it comes to the product line-up for the Xbox. Visually impressive and some hillarious death scenes, but let-down by limited replay value and niggly controls. Kingdom Under Fire: Not much has been said about this game but it was a brave effort for a console that doesn't seem to have an audience for strategy games. Impressive visuals and huge battle scene, but the small following made online play an almost pointless feature. Silent Hill: The Room: Play it at night with the lights out and the curtains open and this game has the potential to scare you s**tless! Some of the most disturbing sounds since Braindead, and while there may be little replay value, it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Star Wars: Battlefront: Quite possibly the most entertaining multiplayer shooter availble... while it lasts. Unfortunately, the fun doesn't last as long as it should. Various weapons and vehicles all make for an near multi-genre game, but the magic of Star Wars just isn't quite there. Well, those are my nominations but easily the best game of 2004 for me is Half-Life 2. What a stunner! The level design is simply fantastic and the character animation some of the best you will see. Plus you get Counter Strike: Source with it, so two games for the price of one!

The weather effects are awsome and the tuning ability adds a lot of depth to the game. If only more people would play on XSN i recon more people would be into it. I dont think im selling this one anytime soon Starwars Battlefront: This game has to have the best large-teamed multi player ive played on xbox. The battles are intense and the vehicles are awsome. Though there are some lag issues, this game IMO is definately one of the best games of '04 and is a great adaptation of the Star Wars battles. Fable: Though some may disagree because of the shortness of this game, I still think Fable is One of the best games of 2004. The customization of your character was awsome and the skills to choose from were unique and useful. The ability to choose the good side or bad and seeing your decisions affect your appearence added a very interesting trait to this game that had not been seen before. Splinter Cell PAndora Tomorrow has been removed as i had time to think about my decision Halo 2 SINGLE PLAYER: The single player of the most anticipated game of '04 was absolutly amazing. The gameplay was incredible and was so much fun. The multiplayer was definitly good but not the best i had played but I would have bought this game even if there was no multiplayer. LOTR The Third Age: This game has probably been the best turn based RPG i've played all year. The story ties in well with the books and the fighting is just incredible. Dont worry about this game being too short, this game is very long and IMO way more challenging than Fable, which i guess wasnt very challenging at all

Character customization, although promised to be much more extensive, was still very unique. Blending different hairstyles, tattoos, beards, and clothing your character could become your own virtual self. The weaponry you could use ranged from axes, swords, bows, and even magic. The physical abilities of your character was one of the first of its kind. You had the option of making your character fat, skinny, old, young. The environments were full of color and really stood out making your realize how much time they put into it. The AI, as smart as it was, could have been smarter. Many times you'd kill several guys run away and they couldn't find you. Halo 2 Campaign: While years in the making Halo 2 delivered what it promised. Duel wielding, adding to the intensity of situations, and defending yourself from the onslaught of enemies during Heroic or Legendary. New weapons such as the Battle Rifle, allowing for ranged shots but also good for mid range combat. The SMG for a fast close assault, and for duel wielding. New levels like Cairo Station where you had to defend others and defuse a bomb. High Charity, where the Master Chief has actually invaded the Covenant homeworld. New characters who played vital parts to Halo 2. Captain Miranda Keyes, the daughter of Captain Keyes, she is the new reclaimer of the Index. The Arbiter an outcast Elite, who by the will of the Prophets is sent to activate Halo. It kept me entertained but also delivered a great story. Ninja Gaiden: A game that has potential to be "Game of the Year". It combined a free-style camera with also the ability to follow the character. A first time for everything. Easy controls to use. And a feature that most games in 2004 didn't have : a challenging AI system. 9 out of 10 times you found your self struggling for answers to beat the AI. While eventually overcoming it look at how long it took you. A good variety of weapons, although many being swords, each had its uniqueness. The Dragon Blade was stronger than all others, the Diablahro was much bulkier but delivered a stronger punch.

I've also loved every bit of Halo 2 (so far). So put that in the list.
Burnout 3. Still don't have the game, but I loved every bit of it when I rented it.

The action is intense and there is no game more challenging on xbox than this.

SCPT, Halo2, and GR2 are all other good candidates, all because of good online play.

Some people are bias to wards Halo 2 because their expectations exceeded what they should have.
