Re: Windows Media Center on Xbox?

It is probably asking you to allow uPnP discovery. You need to allow this to enable the Windows Media Center extender. You don't tell us which operating system or firewall product you are using, but I am going to guess Windows Vista and Norton Firewall. Norton firewall will create a message asking you to allow UPnP discovery when you enter the number as you stated that you have. I would advise you to turn off/disable any 3rd party (non-microsoft like Norton) firewall and make sure that the Windows firewall is enabled. Then, go through the steps that you already have. Good luck.

I have been using Norton for years and you do not need to disable the firewall to set-up Media Center Extender.

Of course you don't. I am not saying that it needs to be disabled for the Media Center Extender to work. What I am suggesting is merely a method of troubleshooting. Furthermore, I don't even know if the person in question is using Norton. They are simply having a problem connecting and leaving very little information. Of course, you already know that there are many ways to configure any firewall software, icluding Norton or Microsoft Firewall, that can cause challenges when networking. Whatever the case, please add any helpful suggestions that you have to help this person.
Thanks,

Daniel
