I read this from gamefaqs.com. It's by a guy named LiMpBiZkitFaN:

When you first attempt to grab The Harbinger, the game records your Physique, your Toughness, and your Health. Before you can pull it from the stone, your Physique must have been improved by 5, your Toughness by 3, and your Health by 2. Or you could just max out all three of them.
